Today’s Scripture “That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” — Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NLT)

Ecclesiastes 12:13 brings Solomon’s reflections on life to a resounding conclusion. Throughout Ecclesiastes, Solomon delves into earthly wisdom, pleasures, and pursuits, only to find them fleeting and ultimately meaningless without God. His final reflection is profound: the essence of life is to fear God and obey His commands.

To “fear God” means to have a deep reverence and respect for Him, recognizing His sovereignty and holiness. This fear isn’t about being scared; it’s about acknowledging God’s authority and living in awe of His power and love. Obeying His commands is the practical outworking of this reverence. This obedience isn’t just about following rules; it’s about aligning our lives with God’s will out of love and respect for Him.

Other scriptures that affirm this conclusion include Proverbs 1:7, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline,” and John 14:15, where Jesus says, “If you love me, obey my commandments.”
