Today’s Scripture
“Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you. O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.”
—Psalm 86:4-5 (NLT)

In Psalm 86:4-5, David prays for happiness and joy, which he believes is attainable through total surrender to God. The passage highlights three attributes of God — His goodness, readiness to forgive, and unfailing love. David acknowledges that joy comes from aligning oneself with God, who is generous in His forgiveness and abundant in love. This scripture calls us to recognize that true happiness is found not in worldly pursuits, but in the divine relationship with a God who is profoundly compassionate and eager to embrace us in His grace. Other scriptures that echo this sentiment are Psalm 16:11, which speaks of joy in God’s presence, and 1 John 1:9, which assures us of forgiveness when we confess our sins.

Ask Yourself

  1. In what areas of my life am I withholding complete surrender to God, and how might that be impacting my ability to experience true joy?
  2. How often do I seek God’s forgiveness and embrace His unfailing love, and what changes do I need to make to deepen this aspect of my spiritual journey?

Take Action
Begin each day by dedicating yourself to God through prayer. Acknowledge His goodness and ask for His guidance in your daily decisions. Make a conscious effort to forgive others, as you have been forgiven, thereby reflecting God’s love. Consider journaling to track your reflections on God’s attributes mentioned in this passage and how they manifest in your life. Engage in daily scripture reading to continuously immerse yourself in His word and deepen your relationship with Him.

Pray This
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your incredible goodness and unfailing love. Help me to fully surrender my life to You so that I may experience the true happiness that only comes from You. Grant me the courage to seek Your forgiveness and to extend it to others as You have done for me. Fill my heart with joy as I walk in Your path. Amen.
