Today’s Scripture
“For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”
— John 3:17 (NLT)
John 3:17 is a continuation of one of the most famous passages in the Bible, John 3:16, which speaks of God’s immense love and sacrifice. Here, the focus shifts to the purpose of Jesus’ coming. The verse emphasizes that Jesus was sent not to condemn humanity, but to offer salvation. This reflects the core of God’s grace and mercy. It’s a reminder that, contrary to a perception of a judgmental and condemning deity, God’s intention is to restore, heal, and bring people into a right relationship with Him. This message is particularly powerful as it underscores the fundamental nature of Jesus’ mission on Earth — redemption rather than retribution.
The concept of salvation over judgment is echoed in other scriptures. For instance, in John 12:47, Jesus says, “I will not judge those who hear me but don’t obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it.” Similarly, Luke 19:10 states, “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” These references reinforce that Christ’s mission is centered on love, rescue, and an invitation to eternal life, rather than condemnation.
Ask Yourself
- Do I approach my faith with a heart of judgment or a heart of compassion and salvation towards others?
- How can I reflect the saving love of Christ in my interactions with those around me, especially in difficult situations?
Take Action
Start by viewing your actions and interactions through the lens of Christ’s mission. Practice extending grace and understanding instead of quick judgment or condemnation. When facing conflicts or challenges, remind yourself of Jesus’ purpose — to save rather than to judge — and let this perspective guide your responses. Engage in acts of kindness and mercy, reflecting God’s love and offering encouragement and support to those who may feel lost or judged. Make a conscious effort to embody the redemptive love of Christ in all areas of your life.
Pray This
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, into the world not to judge us, but to save us. Help me to embrace and embody this truth in my daily life. Grant me the compassion and grace to view others as You do, extending love and salvation rather than judgment. Transform my heart to reflect Your mission of redemption, and guide my actions to be a beacon of Your grace to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
