Today’s Scripture
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'” – Matthew 11:28 (NLT)

Matthew 11:28 comes as a profound promise and invitation from Jesus to those feeling the weight of life’s demands and difficulties. In this passage, Jesus is speaking to a crowd burdened by the strict and often exhausting religious laws of the Pharisees. His invitation to “come to me” is a call to find reprieve not in religious practices, but in a personal relationship with Him. This relief is not merely physical or temporary; it is a deep spiritual rest that rejuvenates the soul. Jesus is offering an alternative to the relentless striving for approval and peace through worldly means. By turning our hearts towards Him, we can find a true and lasting rest that liberates us from our burdens. This notion of divine rest is echoed throughout scripture, such as in Psalm 23:1-3, where God is depicted as a shepherd who leads us beside still waters and restores our souls.

Ask Yourself

  1. What burdens am I currently carrying that I need to bring to Jesus for rest and relief?
  2. How can I cultivate a more personal relationship with Jesus to better experience the rest He promises?

Take Action

Start by identifying what specifically is weighing you down.

  • Journal these thoughts and prayers, offering them to Jesus.
  • Consciously make time each day to be still and present with God—whether through prayer, meditation on scripture, or simply sitting in silence.
  • Consider setting a regular time for a “spiritual retreat,” even if it’s just a moment of quiet in your day, to reconnect and find peace in His presence.
  • Also, foster fellowship with other believers who can support you in your spiritual journey and remind you of this promise of rest.

Pray This

Heavenly Father, I come to You weary and burdened, longing for the rest that only You can provide. Help me to lay down my struggles and trust in Your spirit of peace. Guide me to build a deeper relationship with You, that I may find true refreshment and renewal for my soul. Lord, teach me to lean on You daily and rest in the assurance of Your love. Amen.
